Notice Description

  Fire Hose Refurbishing

In order for Agriculture and Forestry to be able to manage wildfires in Alberta, it must have the necessary firefighting equipment resources available for its firefighting personnel to utilize. Contracted services play a key role in Forestry Division’s ability to maintain firefighting actions on wildfires in order to minimize losses within the Forest Protection Area.

Agriculture and Forestry requires a safe, healthy, industry-standard facility to refurbish fire hose to support the Wildfire Management Program.
For the past 15 years fire hose refurbishing has been contracted out to the private sector. The department is currently in the process of re-tendering this service, as the current contract term expires March 31st, 2018.

The term of the contract will be for three years ending March 31, 2021. The 5-year average of 1 ˝” hose lengths refurbished was 12,500 per year.

The contract to refurbish fire hose is a stepped process:
. Receive and inventory hose from the Provincial Warehouse and Service Centre (WSC) as well as Area warehouses.
. Inspect and pressure test all the fire hose
. Repair all unserviceable fire hose
. Wash, dry, end fold or centre fold or roll (as instructed by the Contract Manager).
. Supply boxes
. Box and label all fire hose, and
. Deliver the fire hose to the Provincial WSC
This process is to be completed within 7 days of receipt of the hose. Once the refurbished hose is returned to the Provincial WSC, it will undergo an inspection to ensure the necessary quality controls have been met.

The successful contractor will be required to supply all labour, materials, and equipment to completely refurbish and return the fire hose to the Provincial WSC.
