Notice Description

Our Zoning Blueprint: 2018 Land Use Bylaw

The general objectives of Our Zoning Blueprint: 2018 Land Use Bylaw is to improve the quality of peopleís lives by fostering the creation of complete communities within a complex planning environment, and a rapidly growing municipality.
More specifically, the following are the key objectives and goals for this project:
1.    Conduct an environmental scan to determine what matters need to be revised, implemented or omitted in the LUB.
2.    Engage the public and stakeholders in all aspects of the project.
3.    Determine whether form-based code or traditional zoning or a combination of both strategies is the preferred LUB format.
4.    Implement the themes and objectives of the Municipal Development Plan, the Strategic Plan, Area Structure Plans, the Central Area Redevelopment Plan, Transportation Master Plan, Open Space and Trails Master Plan, and the French Village Design Guidelines.
5.    Produce a user-friendly LUB with simplified processes and language that removes barriers and creates a resilient community by supporting growth and development with high quality, sustainable buildings and neighborhoods.
6.    Create a new structure and format with efficiency and readability in mind. Text shall be clear, concise and user-friendly, and at all times legally enforceable. Drafting should keep in mind Beaumontís ability to design an interactive web-based LUB with a focus on improved customer service.
7.    Encourage innovation, design and high quality development through flexible, objective standards.
8.    Establish a more transparent, consistent land-use decision-making system.
