Notice Description

2018 Moose and Elk Capture and Radiocollaring

The objective of the project is to safely track, locate, capture and radio-collar adult moose and elk within the proposed capture area located in the Upper Peace management region (Figure 1). Wildlife capture and radiocollaring are performed under strict conditions (weather dependent) and require the appropriate experience in animal tracking, capture and handling. The government requires contractor assistance in achieving the following objectives:

1) Moose and elk captures: the process of quickly and efficiently tracking and locating animals in dense boreal forest and/or open farmland, and using net-gunning equipment from a helicopter to safely and efficiently capture and restrain large ungulates until the helicopter is landed.

2) Moose and elk collaring: a radiocollar will be attached to each individual animal. This activity is to be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible, with the safety of the public and their property, the animal and the aircraft crew as priorities. The goal is to deploy up to 10 radiocollars on adult female moose and up to 10 radiocollars on adult female elk in the proposed capture area located in the Upper Peace management region (Figure 1). The exact location of activities will be dependent upon, field conditions, contractor availability, and other logistical or program considerations.

Please review the RFP for complete scope details.
