Background:

Nucleus Independent Living is a not-for-proﬁt registered charity that provides a range of care services for seniors in the west end of the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga and Halton. The agency has been in operation for over 38 years and has grown signiﬁcantly in the last 10 years. Nucleus has received three consecutive accreditation awards from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. With funding from the Mississauga Halton LHIN, the organization provides the Central Intake function for the region’s Supports for Daily Living (SDL), Caregiver Recharge (In home Respite) and Meals on Wheels programs. It operates the Regional Learning Centre, a training hub for direct services workers and informal caregivers, as well as delivers in home personal support through its SDL, Attendant Outreach and Supportive Housing / assisted living programs in Toronto.

Nucleus last refreshed its strategic plan in 2020 to assess whether its current strategic priorities were still relevant in the rapidly evolving healthcare environment. At the time, the organization’s mission, vision and values were updated to reflect what matters most to its consumers, staff and stakeholders. It was determined the three strategic priorities remained relevant and strategic goals were updated for each priority. Since that time Nucleus has embarked on large scale organizational change under the leadership of its new CEO. This change accompanied by increased growth pressures, front-line capacity planning concerns, and the need to be nimble in a period of significant health system transformation has led the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team to identify the need for a qualiﬁed consulting ﬁrm to help Nucleus get to the next level and realize its potential and leverage its strategic advantages.

Brief Overview of Deliverables:

Conduct interviews with Nucleus’ senior leadership team, select Board members and partners to review relevant documentation which will be fundamental in mapping out our strategic roadmap – ahead of the Strategic Planning Retreat.
Assess existing and future opportunities and prepare some preliminary qualitative and quantitative analysis for the community sector organized in a manner agreed upon with the Agency.
Organize and facilitate the Strategic Planning Retreat to take place between the end of September and Thanksgiving weekend 2021, referencing the information/data gathered from the series of interviews conducted during the planning phase. *This session will include the full Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team of Nucleus Independent Living.
Create a 5-6yr Strategic Roadmap: 2021-2026/2027 for Nucleus’ Board and senior leadership team to review, approve and implement to achieve the desired outcomes.
