Description

Technical Safety BC currently oversees low-carbon technologies from a safety perspective as defined by the Safety Standards Act and Regulations, which includes oversight of regulated equipment and work in BC and excludes enforcing compliance to energy efficiency standards. In order to align with the provincial government and local governments, and to adapt to support our low-carbon future, Technical Safety BC will need to undertake research into how we might adjust or expand our activities and mandate to support this transition.

This project is centred on research and discovery for two distinct scopes:
1) How can Technical Safety BC enable and facilitate the safe adoption of low-carbon technology in support of building electrification?

2) Which governance and/or administrative structure is best positioned to oversee energy efficiency regulation of technical equipment in the building sector?
