CBRM_P05-2021 - Sydney Water Treatment Plant-Geothermal HVAC System

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) Water Utility is presently considering major improvements to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at the Sydney Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The project will include the installation of a geothermal system to heat and cool the process area of the facility, taking advantage of the 3.1 Million imperial gallons of groundwater that is treated daily at the facility. The project will be designed for the main process floor as office spaces and other rooms have independent HVAC systems. The current HVAC system for the process area, with the exception of existing duct work, will be removed and replaced. This project should be referenced as “Sydney Water Treatment Plant Geothermal HVAC Upgrade”.

The CBRM Water Utility is seeking proposals from qualified Engineering Consulting firms (Engineer) for the detailed design and tender preparation for the improvements described. The successful Engineer will provide expert assistance to the CBRM Water Utility regarding viable options, code requirements, potential efficiencies, capital cost estimates, proposed scheduling and providing project management throughout the Project.
