Integrated Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS) System for research in the fundamental electrodynamic properties of quantum materials
Overview
The proposed equipment will support a range of collaborative research in quantum materials, including precision tests of theoretical models of charge dynamics in metals, semiconductors, and superconductors. The equipment will be operated and maintained by the Dodge group but will be available for collaborators and undergraduate volunteers to use, so a turnkey design will be an important selection criterion. Having the laser optics encapsulated in a single, rack-mounted instrument and two fibre-coupled THz modules will lower the barrier for non-specialists to use the THz-TDS technique effectively. The proposed system is expected to rely on technology that has been tested in the communication industry and require little to no maintenance.
