Project Description

The Galiano Island Recycling Resource Society (GIRR) has received approval for the funding for the design and construction of an addition to the existing Recycling Centre facility.

With the funding in place GIRR can proceed with the next phases of the project development and carry through to construction.

At this time the GIRR is looking for general contractors who are interested in constructing the new facility.

The following is a description of the project, as originally programmed:

Covered wood framed building of approximately 900 sq.ft.;
Large doors opening on all sides of the building;
Doors wide and high enough to allow access for the existing Fork Lift;
Maximum amount of natural light entering the building;
Covered walkway as an indirect connection to the existing building with a

concrete pad surrounding the building to facilitate the movement of the forklift;

Installation of a pV Solar Array on the roof and connection to the existing electrical system;
Respecting the existing site services, (drainage, water, etc.), so as to leave undisturbed and revise the existing site services to suit the site conditions; and
Electrical system for interior lighting, heating and the Solar Array.

The GIRR Facility is open to the Public on Fridays and Saturdays and this schedule cannot be interrupted. Therefore the days of construction run from Sunday to Thursday.
GIRR Facilities staff will need to continue to work and operate on site sorting and organizing the recycling products during the construction. Coordination of the site will be between the Construction Contractor and the manager of the GIRR Facility.

Project Schedule

The program is to have the facility completed and ready for use by May 2022. Based upon that completion date, the interested Construction Contractor to comment on the suitability of the schedule and how to best achieve the schedule.

Statement of Qualifications

The statement of qualifications should highlight the firm's specific expertise, Galiano Island experience, and collaboration with any local subtrades.

1. General Background & Overview of Construction Contractor

Description of the firm, size/number of employees, history, affiliates and main areas of business.
Current workload.

1. Understanding of the Project & the Role of the Construction Contractor

The construction contractor’s understanding of the purpose, objective, and development context of the project.
A brief discussion of key issues, opportunities, and challenges.

1. Construction Contractor Knowledge & References

The construction contractor’s knowledge as it relates to the specific project, experience with similar types of projects with references.

1. Construction Schedule

Based upon a completion date of May 2022, comment on the suitability of the schedule and how to best achieve the schedule.

1. Staff and Local Partners

Key staff whose experience is appropriate for this project.
Identification and describe subtrades (local & otherwise) to be used on the project.
Identify the contact within the firm responsible for submitting the response to the EOI and who could answer any further related questions.

1. Insurance & Contract

A copy of your Professional Liability Insurance.
A copy of the WorkSafe BC Registration.
An example of the form of Contract that would normally be used.

1. Financial Capability and Commitments

Indicate the construction contractor’s financial resources and management strength to construct the project. Provide evidence of such capacity.

1. Conclusion

The construction contractor's general and specific interest in this project.
An explanation as to why the construction contractor should be short-listed and to receive a tender package for the construction
A statement of the construction contractor's interest in being on the short list.
Signature and title of a senior officer of the construction contractor.

Next Steps

The GIRR Building Committee, along with the Project Manager and Architect will short list the Construction Contractors based upon their response to the selection criteria (Items 4.1 to 4.8).

Once the Building Permit drawings and documents are completed and submitted to the Capital Regional District the Tender Documents will be issued to the short listed Construction Contractors.
