Description

1. 1. In 2019, the construction of ten (10) flood mitigation dikes were completed along the Sousa Creek in Chateh. In June 2020, the community experienced a flood that damaged a number of the dikes and caused erosion to the existing creek banks.
  2. Work of this Contract comprises of the following in the community of Chateh:
    1. Minor grading, repair and dike extension work at all ten (10) of the existing dikes. This work will consist of:
      1. Restoring dikes to the original design elevations where minor surface erosion took place.
      2. Extending dikes to tie into existing high banks where erosion to adjacent existing banks took place, using material from designated borrow pit.
      3. Replacing rip-rap bank stabilization and erosion control matting where required.
    2. Major dike re-alignment work at two (2) of the existing dikes. Re-alignment work will consist of:
      1. Site clearing and topsoil stripping at new dike alignment locations.
      2. Excavation of common topsoil and clay material from existing dike to be relocated to new dike alignment, including placement, compaction, grading and erosion control. Supplement any material shortfalls using material from designated borrow pit.
      3. Placement of rip-rap bank stabilization and erosion control matting where required.
    3. Construction of two (2) new flood mitigation dikes. New construction work will consist of:
      1. Site clearing and topsoil stripping at new dike locations.
      2. Excavation, hauling, placement, compaction, grading and erosion control of new clay and topsoil material from designated borrow pit.
      3. Placement of rip-rap bank stabilization and erosion control matting where required.
    4. Site clearing, stripping, stockpiling, and restoration at designated borrow pit location.
