This project entails the redevelopment of the Lower Level of Thompson POB to accommodate the requirements of Manitoba Justice for courtrooms and ancillary spaces including administrative offices, sheriff offices, holding cells and storage areas. The total area to be renovated is approximately 26,200 sq. ft. The project involves complete demolition of the entire basement floor area, including walls, ceilings, floor finishes, millwork, etc. as well as total re-work and/or replacement of existing mechanical and electrical systems to suit the new layout. Extensive structural modifications to the existing structural slab will be required to accommodate the revised plumbing layout throughout the floor area as well. Some remediation of heaving at the existing loading ramp at the building exterior will be required.
The Thompson POB is a multi-story building; Manitoba Justice is a significant tenant of the building occupying space on the lower level, main floor and a portion of the second floor. Due to the scope of this project and the coordination required to ensure that court operations are not interrupted by renovation work, a multi-phased project delivery strategy is expected to allow for business continuity. A phasing plan has been prepared for constructability and overall maintenance of facility operations during construction. All Manitoba Courts business at Thompson POB will continue to operate during construction.
