7341-2023/24 - Conceptual Design - New Fire Centre and Initial Attack Base Thompson Airport

To address safety concerns and to improve operational needs, Manitoba is proposing to relocate the current Initial Attack("IA") Fire Base to the Thompson Airport. There is a synergy and benefit to developing the airport site to also accommodate the future needs of Manitoba’s wildfire program as part of this relocation. For this reason, the relocation will include sufficient capacity to support helicopter traffic, and the regional and district fire operations in one location. As part of the relocation of the Current IA Base, Manitoba will expand the new facility to include the future accommodation of additional helicopters and construct a new regional fire centre building complete with temporary accommodations for
firefighters and pilots, and storage capacity to house necessary firefighting equipment. The objective is to develop a new fire centre and initial attack base for firefighting services in the Northern part of the Province.
