Description

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
Manitoba Hydro Chemical Laboratory Services is currently analyzing metals in lubricating and
insulating oils by axial ICP-OES. We are looking at replacing our axial ICP-OES with an ICP
instrument specifically for routine lubricating and insulating oil analysis according to the following
ASTM methods:

· D5185 - Standard Test Method for Multielement Determination of Used and Unused
Lubricating Oils and Base Oils by Inductively coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry
(ICP-AES)

· D7151 - Standard Test Method for Determination of Elements in Insulating Oils by
Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES)

The decision will be based on a combination of instrument cost (quoted in Canadian dollar), detection
limits and accuracy guarantees, accessory requirements and costs, gas consumption, analysis time,
and performance on samples analyzed at your laboratory.
