RRC Polytech is seeking proposals from Prime Consultants for the Roblin Centre Safety Guardrail Project at the Exchange District Campus aimed at increasing the guardrail heights in various locations to address safety concerns. This project will involve adding safety guards on top of existing guardrails. Some existing guardrails are framed in aluminum curtain walls with glass, while others are steel and steel mesh guardrails. The overall design shall provide an aesthetically pleasing balance to the existing architectural details, that maintain an open sense of connectivity between different spaces. As part of the Prime Consultant’s team, allow for provisions for engaging additional professional sub-consultants as necessary to evaluate and confirm the structural integrity of the existing guardrails to support the new design. The project encompasses the design of new safety guardrails at the following locations: the central atrium at the South bridges on the upper levels, the North platforms and associated stairways, the sloped walkways located to the West of the atrium, and the stairways to the East of the Princess Building. Additionally, potential locations for guardrail design include the mezzanine areas situated on the East side of the Princess Building. The Prime Consultant shall conduct a thorough assessment of the existing guardrail conditions across the identified locations, including a detailed review of the 2021 safety guardrail proposal report. Based on this assessment and stakeholder requirements, the Prime Consultant will develop and present multiple design options for consideration. Upon selection and approval of the preferred design option, the Prime Consultant shall prepare complete design documentation, including detailed drawings, connection details, and technical specifications. Additionally, the Consultant shall ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes and safety standards and provide a formal review to confirm compliance. The scope also includes coordination with relevant stakeholders, incorporation of feedback, and preparation of any necessary supporting documentation for permitting or approval processes. Throughout the project, the Prime Consultant will be responsible for project management activities, quality assurance, and attending coordination meetings as required. The project will prioritize the safety and well-being of the campus community by ensuring compliance with RRC Polytech’s current safety standards as well as all relevant code requirements. Minimizing disruption to campus activities throughout the design and construction phases will be a key consideration. The proposed design shall enhance the overall safety of the campus environment for students, staff, and visitors. Ongoing collaboration with the College’s Project Manager and stakeholders will be essential to ensure full compliance with all applicable safety codes and institutional standards. Stakeholders will value transparency in project updates, timelines, and deliverables, and the ability to adapt plans based on unforeseen conditions as they arise is crucial.
