Description

The Shabomeka Lake Dam has been the subject of several geotechnical and structural reports since the last rehabilitation in 1989. In 2019, a Class EA was completed that recommended reconstructing the concrete control structure and rehabilitating the two adjacent earth embankments.

Due to scheduling and material limitations, the MVCA will be adopting a phased construction approach for this project. The first phase will be reduced to works for completion within the funding deadlines. The earth embankments will be rehabilitated through the installation of a soil-cement-bentonite cut-off wall. In addition, the north embankment will have an emergency overflow spillway installed. At the end of the work, all soils will be stabilized, and the site will be restored to its original condition.

The Shabomeka Lake Dam is situated approximately 10 kilometres northeast of the Village of Cloyne. It can be accessed by turning onto Head Road from Highway 41. Proceed on Head Road for 950 m and then turn left onto Shabomeka Lake Road. Proceed down Shabomeka Lake Road for 4.7 km, the dam is located on the left. If you reach the boat launch or pass Higgins Lane you have gone too far.
