Description:
York University Lassonde School of Engineering and the Freire-Gormaly Lab is seeking to acquire and commission two complementary aerosol measurement instruments, a Fast Mobility Particle Sizer and Optical Particle Sizer. The combined systems must support accurate characterization of dynamic aerosol environments (e.g., transient emissions, rapidly changing concentrations) by providing near-real-time particle size distributions and number concentrations across ultrafine and larger particle size regimes.

The Fast Mobility Particle Sizer (FMPS) should measure submicrometer particle size distributions of aerosols with very high temporal resolution. It employs a technique based on a single ‘inside-out’ Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA) in combination with multiple, low-noise electrometers permitting the measurement of both number concentration and complete size distribution of submicrometer particles in a minimum of 1 second. The concentration range covers a broad range of more than 5 orders of magnitude, and the instrument is able to measure total concentrations as low as 200-300 particles/cm3 depending on investigated particle size and averaging time.

The Optical Particle Sizer (OPS) shall provide optical sizing and counting in the larger particle size regime (typically extending from submicrometre to several micrometres), complementing the FMPS to yield continuous, overlapping coverage and enabling integrated analysis of mixed aerosol populations.
