This Request for Proposals (the “RFP”) is an invitation by the University of Ottawa (the “University”) to prospective proponents to submit proposals for a Melt Spinning System, funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Ontario Research Fund, as further described in Appendix D (RFP Particulars) Section A (the “Deliverables”).
The University is soliciting prospective proponents to submit proposals for the supply, installation, commissioning, and training assocaited with a laboratory-scale Melt Spinning System. The system must be capable of producing materials, typically metallic and ceramic ribbons including semiconducting ones. The system is designed for fabricating special material ribbons. It operates by melting metal pellets (or grains) using induction heating method, then exerting a molten material onto a fast-moving, cold wheel (or drum) surface for rapid quenching and solidification. The system must include a high vacuum chamber, a proper high vacuum pumping system (such as turbomolecular or diffusiono pump), an RF generator, a solid metal spinning wheel, and a control panel for uniaxial movement of melting crucible. The intended output is ribbons with defined width (e.g., 1 to 30 mm).
Mandatory Technical Specifications Requirements:
1.0 - Melt Spinning System
1.1 - The system must be a laboratory-scale melt spinning system
1.2 - The system must include a high vacuum system better than 1×10-3 mbar. The chamber material must be vacuum compatible stainless steel.
1.3 - The system must include a spinning wheel with a diameter of at least 200 mm, the width of 50 mm
1.4 - The system must include an RF generator capable of a minumum 3 KW output.
1.5 - The system must be capable of processing a materials loading of 1 gram to 5 gram per operation.
1.6 - The system must have material collecting chamber or appratus where resulting ribbon are clustered.
1.7 - The system must have Z-axis controllable appratus for crucible assembly movement.
1.8 - The system must have an inlet for inert gas of Ar.
1.9 - The system must have dry vacuum pumping system
1.10 - The system must have overheating and emergency shutoffs
1.11 - The inductino heater must be able to increase the temperature higher than 1800 °C
2.0 - Controller and Pressure
2.1 - Vacuum system and wheel speed must be controlled by a control panel or software.
2.2 - The system must have at least one gas-input line.
2.3 - Stable chamber pressure after flowing inert gas must be ensured.
3.0 - Warranty and Maintenance
3.1 - Must include 1-year standard manufacturer’s warranty and technical support (on-site, emails and phone calls)
3.2 - Must include on-site installation and training. Supplier must agree to video-recording of the training session(s) for the purpose of future user training.
4.0 - References
4.1 - Must provide customer references for installed equipment of same model/series in (Please refer to Appendix E – Reference Consent Form).
