Statement of Requirements
The requested breakthrough gas adsorption analyzer is a critical piece of infrastructure required to evaluate the performance of porous materials for clean energy applications. This emcompasses processes such as pre-combustion and post-combustion CO2 capture, as well as oxyfuel combustion, which are at the forefront of new technologies for clean power generation and storage. This piece of equipement is complementary to existing gas adsorption analyzers and will enable to expand the scope of the researchers by providing access to measurements that would mimick the industrial processes in question, a key component in advancing such clean energy alternatives.
The selective gas adsorption analyzer will be capable of measuring the dynamic multi-component adsorption behaviour of porous solids, including metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks and zeolites. Importantly, this will allow for breakthrough measurements allowing for the determination of adsorption rate, gas selectivity, uptake capacity and adsorption equilibrium. This system should be compatible with a range of industrially relevant gases including CO2, H2, N2, CH4, CO, to name a few, and be suitable for mixed gas adsorption capabitilies.
The instument should allow for automated breakthrough measurements, and thus, the controlled mixing of various gases in desired quantities. The instrument should also allow for the preparation and activation of samples at high temperatures, as well as the measurement of high pressure gas adsorption isotherms. This should be suitable for microporous and mesoporous materials.
