Description

The City of Edmonton has initiated the procurement for 40 light rail vehicles (LRVs) for the Valley Line LRT project.

At 27 kilometres, the Valley Line represents the largest mass transit investment in the City of Edmonton’s history. The long-term vision for the Valley Line includes continuous operations between Mill Woods in southeast Edmonton through Downtown to Lewis Farms in west Edmonton. Due to the complexity and scale of the project, the Valley Line is being delivered in two stages:
Stage One: Valley Line Southeast, a 13-kilometre LRT line which includes the southeast corridor from Mill Woods Town Centre to Downtown Edmonton. It is currently under construction and belong delivered as a Public-Private-Partnership; and
Stage Two: Valley Line West, a 14-kilometre LRT extension from Downtown to the west, with terminus at Lewis Farms Transit Centres. Design and construction is currently in procurement with financial close anticipated in December.

The LRVs will be required to operate on both stages of the Valley Line. The LRVs will provide bidirectional, articulated, low-floor service that is compatible with the Valley Line infrastructure. The Valley Line requirements include operations in both segregated and mixed traffic rights of way in Edmonton’s winter climate.
