PROJECT OVERVIEW
Alberta’s Crown Land Vision was released in November of 2020. The Vision will guide government’s work with three main themes: a clear, understandable system for land use; sustainable recreation; and focusing on outcomes and reducing red tape. Work on advancing the Vision includes improving management of all provincial Crown lands, while respecting our legacy of conservation, parks and protected areas, our heritage of public lands and working landscapes, and the knowledge of Indigenous peoples.
Exploration of possible options to improve Crown lands management requires familiarity with Alberta’s legislative framework including but not limited to the Public Lands Act, the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, Provincial Parks Act, Wilderness Areas, Ecological Reserves, Natural Areas and Heritage Rangelands Act, and Willmore Wilderness Park Act.
Alberta Environment and Parks requires legislative planning support to advance implementation of the Alberta Crown Land Vision and development of other land-use planning (e.g. sub-regional planning), policy development, and legislation. This contract is for the provision of legislative planning support. This contract will not provide legal advice.
Alberta Crown land management supports achievement of the following objectives in the Environment and Parks Business Plan (2021-2024):
• Use updated environmental legislation and regulation to address current and emerging issues, such as red tape reduction (e.g., Regulatory Transformation Project) while maintaining robust environmental standards and safety; and,
• Improve recreational access management through effective engagement and a modern and integrated approach to Crown lands management (including public lands and parks), implementation of the Alberta Trails Act, and establishment of a sustainable recreation funding framework.
This contract will support and is aligned with government commitments and ministry objectives related to modernizing legislation and regulations, reducing red tape, a modern and integrated approach to Crown lands management, and implementation of a Trails Act.
