Description

Within the Fort McMurray Forest Area, two fire bases are strategically located to mitigate the risk associated with wildfires, those being Graying and Martin. During wildfire season (March 1 – October 31), the Province requires the delivery of potable water, as well as sewage removal. Potable water shall be delivered to both fire bases on a three (3) day rotation with additional deliveries being requested at the discretion of the Province. Sewage pick-up will be on an “as-needed” basis for the Grayling Fire Base, and on a three (3) day rotation for Martin Fire Base.

Fire Base Locations:

Grayling Fire Base is located at km 204 off highway 63 approximately 40 minutes south of Fort McMurray. See Attachment 5 (Grayling Firebase on average will receive 12 cubes of water per delivery with a minimum recorded delivery of six cubes and the highest delivered amount of 20 cubes. Water is supplied on a three (3) day cycle to maintain volume and then as needed if water usage increases. An average of 76 deliveries of water is required a year Sewage is only required on an as needed basis and is typically required less than 15 times a year – This information is provided for reference purposes only.

Martin Firebase is located west of Fort McMurray, down the Dover Road approximately 113km from Fort McMurray. The drive time is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. See Attachment 5 (Martin Firebase on average will receive 12 cubes of water per delivery with a minimum recorded delivery of six cubes and the highest delivered amount of 32 cubes. Water is supplied on a three (3) day cycle to maintain volume and then as needed if water usage increases. An average of 46 deliveries of water is required a year. Sewage is required to be pumped and trucked out on the same cycle as the water is delivered. Sewage trucks are scheduled to arrive at Martin base on a three (3) day rotation and are called in more frequently if the need is required. – This information is provided for reference purposes only.
