This major works contract involves both the construction of new forestry roads and the reconstruction of existing forestry roads to access Timber Sale Licence (TSL) TA2500 in the Strait of Georgia Business Area. The works are in the Sayward Forest proximate to Campbell River, BC. The total reconstruction is approximately 1.817 kilometers, involving brushing, road widening, ditch establishment, culvert installation, minor resurfacing, danger tree removal and right of way falling where identified on the project plans. The total new road construction is estimated at 1.644 kilometers. Drilling and blasting will occur in proximity to high value recreation trails, and specialized falling equipment has been requested in the solicitation see Info to Bidders for additional details.

Time is of the essence. The works are required to achieve Timber Sale Licence targets for fiscal year 2026.

Be aware that BCTS has made changes to its EMS and SFM programs to meet the updated 2022 Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Forest Management Standard. Changes impacting BCTS clients include new training requirements (Table 008-1, 008-1A, Tailgate Training, SFI Awareness documents, and new Indigenous rights awareness training, as well as changes to training frequency and a new continuing education component). In addition, note changes to EMS/SFM Environmental Field Procedures and Incident Reporting Procedures which occurred June 1, 2022.
Supervisors and workers will need to be familiar with these changes prior to commencement of operations.
