2nd Avenue West (Morse Creek)
The bridge is an approximately 130 meters long, timber bent bridge with an asphalt wearing surface and concrete abutments. There are two lanes of traffic with a single pedestrian walkway which has a timber deck. Beneath the asphalt wearing surface, is laminated timber decking consisting of 75x265mm members, tensioned with Dwidag threadrods. The threadrods are used to hold the decking together tightly and help the decking act as one solid member. There are twenty (20) bents in total, with five (5) 300x300mm creosote treated timber piles and75x265mm cross bracing. The bridge has no posted load limit.
Scope of Work
The project is to generate a design and methodology exploring repairing and retrofitting options for the bridge. While construction works takes place, temporary access will be required to allow traffic to move freely in/out of Section 2 (with possible coordination and planning with CN Railways). This will involve reviewing all background information (previous repairs and repair designs), reviewing of previous inspection reports, evaluating current and future traffic demands, developing conceptual designs, final design, materials list and cost estimates.
The services will comprise the following scope of work for the Project including, without limiting:
(i)Complete close proximity assessment/inspection, and analysis of the 2nd Avenue Bridge
(ii)Utilization of snooper truck, coring tools and geotechnical equipment (if required)
(iii)Produce Inspection Report and Conceptual repair designs
(iv)Design, sketch, and compile quantities of materials to be replaced/repaired. Design and sketches to be ready to tendered for construction by early 2026
(v)List, in priority sequence, all repairs and maintenance required
(vi)Prepare estimate (Class C) for all repairs (to create budget for repairs) to be presented during the Fall City Budget Meetings (planning for 2026 Capital Projects)
(vii)Complete required tests on bridge as per Provincial and Federal Guidelines
(viii)Complete analysis and review of the historic and current drawings, reports, inspections and works on the bridge completed to current date (Information will only be provided to successful proponent)
(ix)Compile IFT Drawing set, Procurement Package (Tender Package) and documentation required to post tender for repair works (as outlined in procurement packages produced)
(x)Compile Traffic Management Plan (with coordination, agreements and requirements with CN Rail)
(xi)Work may include geotechnical soil stability (if required)
