AB-2025-04993 - Vaccine Distribution System to Pharmacies

The Primary and Preventative Health Services (PPHS) wishes to engage four (4) wholesale distributors to provide real time, province wide vaccine distribution to pharmacies. The distributors will be contracted through sole source. The distributors are chosen based on their ability, experience and market share in distributing prescription medication in Alberta; and on the fact that they are serving all pharmacies across the province. There are a limited number of Health Canada approved pharmacy wholesale distributors that offer vaccine distribution to pharmacies in Alberta. When outbreaks occur, vaccines must be distributed quickly to pharmacies across the province to ensure public health and safety. Wholesale distributors, with their existing distribution arrangements with pharmacies, can significantly cut down distribution time and provide precise tracking and reporting of all the vaccine to each pharmacy. In the event of a vaccine recall, wholesale distributors are able to assist returning products to the PPHS efficiently and cost effectively as required.
