AB-2025-05533 - Caregiver Training (Evergreening)

Workforce Development, Regulatory Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Business Supports Division, oversees the creation and delivery of curriculum to support the learning and development for Children and Family Services (CFS) staff, Caregivers and Delegated First Nations Agencies (DFNA) in Alberta. Workforce Development (WFD) works collaboratively with key stakeholders in Child Intervention and DFNA’s to provide learning and development opportunities that align with the needs and practice initiatives to prepare staff and Caregivers to meet the demands of their role.

Alberta’s Foster, Kinship and Permanency Caregivers (Caregivers) provide services to vulnerable children and youth in Alberta under the Child Youth & Family Enhancement Act. Caregivers provide a safe, stable, and nurturing home for children and youth who are temporarily unable to live with their families due to safety concerns or other challenges. They play a vital role in supporting the emotional and developmental needs of children and youth, helping them heal and grow during times of transition. Caregivers work closely with Children and Family Services and other agencies, receive training and support, and help maintain connections to the child and youth’s family, culture, and community. Their Caregiving role is guided by Alberta’s Child Intervention Practice Framework (CIPF), which emphasizes strengths-based, culturally respectful, and collaborative approaches to child intervention.

All projects represented in this RFP are expected to incorporate the 7 competencies below to ensure that all Caregivers acquire knowledge and skills in the following key areas:
1. Supporting children and families with historical trauma, loss and grief
2. Maintaining a child's culture and / or Indigenous Connections
3. Collaborating for successful transitions
4. Responding to the demands of the Caregiving experience
5. Working in collaboration with Children and Family Services
6. Building relationships with the child or youth's family
7. Identifying and promoting the child/youth's development

Project Purpose: The purpose of this RFP is to secure one or more successful proponent(s) to update four courses to be delivered to an audience of Foster, Kinship and Permanency Caregivers. All four courses require material to be developed to facilitate in-person and virtual delivery. The courses all require an update of activities as well as visuals to better align with trainings that have either been newly developed or recently updated. Additionally, updates to content because of policy and practice changes will be required.
