Alberta Infrastructure - Engineering Information Management System.

Alberta Infrastructure has historically managed drawings through the use of spreadsheets, email, and shared network drives. Currently, there are over 165,000 drawing and models in 2D and 3D formats, occupying roughly 2 terabytes of space. It is estimated that over the next five years, the drawings and models will expand to approximately 10 terabytes of space.

Alberta Infrastructure’s Technical Services Branch is responsible for the management and accuracy of the drawings and models. The Province wishes to improve the ability to manage to new industry standards like Building Information Modeling (BIM).

The Province intends to implement an Engineering Information Management System (EIMS). This technology will allow Departments to work together to modernize and provide a single and cohesive approach to the management of engineering information.

The EIMS will address drawing management, drawing transmittals/collaboration and information management/analytics.
