19TDRFMB810 - Technical Editing Services for the Reforestation Standard of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry

The Reforestation Standard of Alberta (RSA) is a comprehensive reforestation directive (currently 376 pages) enabled by the Timber Management Regulation. The RSA applies to all public forested land where harvesting of trees has occurred under the authority of a timber disposition. It describes a diverse range of standards and procedures including development of forest type (stratum) specific Mean Annual Increment (MAI) standards, stratum declarations (reforestation objectives), strata balancing, establishment surveys and performance surveys.

The RSA was written over a nine month period in 2009. It was then implemented for use by the forestry industry and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) staff. Although the RSA was reviewed internally by AF and by the forest industry, it never received a proper editorial review by a qualified technical writer to ensure that the desired concepts and procedures were clearly, unambiguously, and simply written or portrayed (e.g., flowcharts, graphics, etc.) and grammatically correct for its intended audience. The objective of this project and the provision of this RFP is to have a comprehensive review and update of the RSA completed by an experienced professional technical editor.

During the provision of the RSA editorial services, the contractor will be expected to: 1) have their own equipment, as necessary in the fulfillment of the contract; 2) work with subject matter experts in the fulfillment of the contract; and 3) attend in-person meetings at the Forest Management Branch head office.
