19-58060 - Development of Technical Guide for Northern Housing (TGNH) - Phase 2 (19-58060)

Over many years, the residential design and construction stakeholders in Northern Canada have been using a variety of documents and publications to assist with making regional decisions on the appropriate means for the delivery of residential housing in Canada’s Far North. Many of these regional documents are now more than several years old and have not been updated to reflect new research, new knowledge, and new housing requirements.

The National Research Council (NRC), working with the First Nations National Building Officers Association (FNNBOA) now has funding available to create a new technical guide that complies the current knowledge of performing house construction that can help address common building design issues, as well as, adaptability to address the potential future challenges to requirements that will come with climate change in the North. The FNNBOA members and other northern building officials are to be the primary users of the Technical Guide to promote, commission and inspect the houses emanating from the Technical Guide.
