Description

Supply and Delivery of a Continuous Particulate and Metals Ambient Air Monitor
Scope of Work
Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, in partnership with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the City of Toronto, and the University of Toronto, established a network of four roadside stations in Toronto in 2015 to monitor TRAP in highly urbanized settings. This was the first exclusive roadside air monitoring network in Canada.

The latest advancements in air monitoring technology were deployed across the network to monitor common air pollutants (ozone, fine particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides) and a wide range of traffic-related air pollutants (ultrafine particles, volatile organic compounds, trace metals, black carbon, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide). The objectives of the roadside monitoring in Toronto were to measure traffic-related air pollutants in roadside environments to improve understanding of factors controlling their ambient levels. Multi-year TRAP measurements were used to assess trends due to changes in control initiatives and to provide scientific evidence to support the development and improvement of control strategies.

We are planning to establish a portable platform to monitor TRAP by using a Recordum AirPointer station. The portable monitoring platform only requires the power supply of a household 120V 15A. This is logically feasible to identify areas of concerns and to conduct field campaigns before permanent monitoring stations are established. The procurement of this instrumentation will enable monitoring of metals within the Airpointer platform.
