Alberta’s provincial parks and recreation areas conserve our natural heritage and provide popular nature-based recreation opportunities to visitors from across the province and around the world. They also play a major role in Alberta’s tourism industry, providing opportunities for small businesses and having positive impacts on the economies of many local communities.
The intent of this RFP is to solicit and receive Proposals to operate the Concession providing food service and non-motorized boat rentals in Long Lake Provincial Park.
The term of the agreement is for 2 years with the potential to extend for another 3 years.
Long Lake Provincial Park is located 137 km north of Edmonton, Alberta along Highway 831, south of the village of Boyle and northeast of the hamlet of Newbrook. The park provides opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities including boating, fishing, swimming, beach activities, hiking, camping, bird watching, geocaching, horseshoes, biking, picnicking and playground.
Long Lake Provincial Park includes 226 campsites, a day use area with a beach, and a boat launch. The majority of camping and day-use takes place from the May long weekend through the September long weekend, although weekends in the spring and fall shoulder seasons are increasingly popular. From the beginning of July to the end of August, campground occupancy ranges from 70% to 95% of capacity.
The annual average number of occupied campsite nights for the last 3 years is 14,700, with an average camping group size of four people. The park’s close proximity to Edmonton (about one and one half-hour drive) contributes to high day use visitation. The annual average day
user traffic is 18,800 persons per season.
The concession facilities are located near the beach area and are very popular with park users throughout the operating season.
