CW2245513 - Net Zero Electricity in Alberta

This work requires developing and modeling a number of scenarios to provide quantitative and qualitative results to understand associated impacts from implementation of, and possible policy options for, the federal Clean Electricity Standard (CES) and net zero electricity by 2035 in Alberta. It will also inform the Technology Innovation Emissions Reduction (TIER) review.

Contractor will develop a set of scenarios reflecting a range of future industry, government policy and regulatory decisions. This will help lay the groundwork for analyzing whether federal electricity-related policies are appropriate for Alberta’s deregulated electricity market.

This analysis serves as a check on the parallel work that Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is conducting. AESO prioritizes reliability, while this work will also prioritize costs to consumers.

Ideally, the Contractor will develop endogenous generation capacity mixes based on provided inputs. While modeling endogenous capacity mixes is not mandatory, Proponents who have this experience or ability will receive additional consideration.
