Description

Currently the Alternative School is located in a rented space in downtown Red Deer at #202 5214 47 Avenue, and the program is outgrowing the space. The proposal is to convert part of the former Pines Elementary School (grades K-5) into the Alternative School (Grades K-12). The building has not been used as a traditional school in a few years. Currently a third of the building is rented to Red Deer Daycare, a small area is
used by RDPSD teachers for online learning, and a portion of the building is not used. The daycare, and RDPSD online learning will remain in the building.
.2 The planned building changes include renovating the reception and lobby to meet the needs of the school. Expanding the kitchen area for student learning. Renovating the change rooms into gender neutral washrooms. Some other minor interior work will occur to update the spaces, if the budget allows, like painting. A new semi-private student patio / outdoor classroom space located on the southeast corner will be added.
