Description

The Summer Village of Ma-Me-O Beach requires an Infrastructure Audit as part of a Viability Review currently being conducted by the Department of Municipal Affairs. Part of the Government of Alberta’s role in supporting local communities is at times to undertake a Viability Review to assess whether a particular municipality is viable going forward.

An assessment of viability includes a review of the municipality’s governance structure, financial standing, and the state of infrastructure and services. Understanding the state of existing municipal infrastructure and the efforts required to manage risks and maintain service levels for the community is a critical part of this Viability Review assessment. In some instances, a Viability Review results in the municipality dissolving and becoming part of a neighboring municipality, in which case the infrastructure audit will be used by that neighboring municipality to identify and address priority infrastructure projects. Otherwise, the infrastructure audit will form the basis for recommendations to the Summer Village of Ma-Me-O Beach by the Viability Review Support Group led by Municipal Affairs.
