Description

The University has established policies and procedures that emphasize a multifaceted approach to the evaluation of teaching which includes feedback from students about their perspectives on teaching through surveys and commentary. The evaluation of teaching and learning may include the use of available survey tools for use with instructors assessing students, instructors assessing peers, instructors assessing themselves, and / or students assessing themselves.

Students’ input is collected through the Student Perspectives of Teaching (SPOT) surveys, a standardized University questionnaire, approved by the General Faculties Council designed to obtain the students’ perspectives on their experiences of teaching. These surveys are composed of standard questions, supplemental questions and open-ended questions. SPOT surveys are run for all credit courses each time the course takes place. The surveys are delivered online via email (initial invitation and reminders) and links posted in different systems and websites. The SPOT surveys are expected to interact seamlessly within the University digital environment.

The University of Alberta is looking to enter into a one (1) to Three (3) year renewable agreement to supply Software as a Service (SaaS), or software that can be hosted in the cloud, to implement, distribute, analyze and report on the multifaceted evaluations.
