This Request for Proposal (RFP) seeks one or more qualified contractors to support the planning and delineation of future project areas in caribou ranges.
The Caribou Habitat Recovery Program (CHRP) is an ongoing initiative aimed at assessing and treating legacy seismic lines within Alberta’s 15 caribou ranges. There are approximately 209,000 km of these legacy lines, and it is estimated that over 40% are not recovering naturally. These lines no longer provide economic benefit, and without intervention - such as tree planting - they are unlikely to regenerate into forested habitat capable of supporting caribou or contribute to Alberta’s economy.
Restoration planning is the first step in the restoration cycle. This planning requires a combination of field and spatial analysis. Products include but not limited to compartment delineation, will be conducted at the range scale to identify priority areas for future restoration treatments. CHRP is seeking contractors capable of surveying and delineating compartments within caribou ranges. These compartments should be defined based on logistical considerations for operational implementation, using natural boundaries such as landforms and access routes and consider other land-uses taking place in caribou ranges.
The restoration planning will focus on the following caribou ranges:
• Nipisi • Slave Lake • Red Earth • Chinchaga
