220206 - 2025-24 Chemainus Wells Surface Water Quality Monitoring and Reporting

Notice is hereby given by the Corporation of the District of North Cowichan (DNC) of its intent to directly award Monitoring Water Quality and Preparation of Assessment Reports for the 2025 Chemainus River Hydrometric Monitoring Program, in support of summer drinking water wells near the Chemainus River. Monitoring and reporting is required to meet conditions issued by the Ministry of Water Lands and Resource Stewardship in licensing the operation of the wells in the summers (June 15 to Oct 15) of 2019 to the present. Deliverables of the work includes gauging release volumes of water from Banon Reservoir to meet flow augmentation conditions of the license as well as installing and monitoring surface and ground water stations for flow, temperature, and level. Stage / discharge equations are developed based on field data collected. Each monitoring season is accompanied by the preparation of a report on surface and ground water conditions in and around the drinking water wells and at indicator station in and around the Chemainus River. A second report is also prepared which involves engagement with Halalt First Nation and is tailored to addressing management questions and concerns important to Halalt. The term of the services will be for a period of 1 year beginning 10 October 2025 with the ability to extend an additional 4 years.
