19RFP10100003 - Alberta’s 10-Year Tourism Strategy Development

The Government of Alberta has committed to the development of a 10-Year Tourism Strategy (10YTS), a holistic destination management and promotion plan for the province. This strategy must include methods to help facilitate more private sector investment, grow businesses and new destinations in order to create jobs and contribute to responsible economic growth in the province. The stated aim of the strategy is to create conditions and mechanisms to grow Alberta’s visitor economy to $20 billion by 2030.

The strategy development process will include an economic forecast by Tourism Economics for tourism visitation and expenditures in Alberta up to 2030 as well as providing input on key factors that may drive/impact the forecast positively or negatively.

This RFP seeks to identify a consultant to create a 10YTS for Alberta with Travel Alberta, the ministry of Economic Development Trade and Tourism (EDTT) and through stakeholder engagement, that will support Alberta’s tourism industry in achieving its full economic potential. The consultant will be knowledgeable in global tourism, and well-versed in private business, community and government relations. They will have proven success in destination master planning and will share their experiences in global best practice strategy development. They will apply leading practices in industry and community engagement, facilitation, insight capture, assessment and scenario analysis, to support a guiding principle of the 10YTS: to create a transformational destination management plan.
