RTO4 invites qualified consultants, agencies, or consortiums to submit proposals for the revitalization and expansion of the Grand River Safety Project. This initiative builds on existing work – including the Grand River Access Point Standards Manual and Signage Style Guide and Kilometer Marking Program–and will introduce new safety infrastructure, educational materials, and outreach strategies. The project will be developed in partnership with emergency services, municipalities, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA), community members, and those involved in river-based tourism and recreation.
Project Objectives and Deliverables:
- Engage with key collaborators and partners to inform the development of consistent and effective river safety practices.
- Identifying essential safety information to be displayed at river access points and upstream signage locations;
- Recommending standards for hazard marking and safety infrastructure near dams and other high-risk river features;
- Planning the reactivation and long-term maintenance of the Kilometer (KM) Marking System, including practical implementation strategies and clear partner roles and responsibilities.
- Review the current Signage and Style Guide and create an accompanying document to reflect safety standards.
- Design a multi-platform education campaign to promote awareness and safer behavior on the river.
