CONSTRUCTION WORK
Work of this Contract comprises new opening in existing concrete block wall, interior renovations, and mechanical and electrical modification to A165 identified in the Contract Documents for Durham College.
DIVISION 02
Demolition and Alterations
- Construct new opening in existing masonry wall and install new structural steel lintel and new fire rated hollow metal screen and door.
- Remove existing partitions between existing offices to create new Office area - refer to Drawings.
- Renovate existing open Office area to accommodate new workstations - refer to Drawings.
- Upgrade mechanical and electrical systems.
- Investigate and repair leaks at existing skylight (Cash Allowance work).
- Carry out alteration and demolition work required to accommodate new work indicated on Drawings.
- Make good any damage caused by alterations required.
- Make good all affected surfaces and paint.
- Unless note otherwise, building materials resulting from demolition under this contract shall become the property of the Contractor, and shall be removed by the Contractor.
DIVISION 05
Structural Steel
Coordinate this work with the work of the steel joist supplier. Provide all necessary dimensions and structural steel shop drawings to the steel joist supplier for the completion of their work.

- Steel framing around roof and floor openings
- Hoist beams
- Weldable reinforcing steel bars attached to structural steel
- Field connections to concrete and masonry

- Connection assemblies set in concrete
- Loose angle lintels that bear on concrete or masonry
- Shelf angles/plates and wall plates that bear on or are attached to concrete or masonry
DIVISION 06
Finish Carpentry
Provide any wood framing & blocking required.
DIVISION 07
Insulation
- Acoustic insulation.
- Includes all insulation indicated on drawings but not specified elsewhere.

DIVISION 08
Hollow Metal Doors and Frames
- Supply and install all hollow metal products including frames, transom frames, screens, sidelight and window assemblies with provision for glazed, paneled or louvred openings, fire labelled and non-labelled, as scheduled or shown on the Drawings.
- Work shall include the following:
- Reinforcing for Finishing Hardware.
- Supply all necessary fastening and anchoring devices for above items.
- Steel closure pieces at metal panels, steel columns, horizontal members, and hollow metal frames and screens. Refer to Drawings.
- Metal panels in hollow metal frames.
- Supply and install HSS and channel reinforcing members where shown at screens and door frames/sidelights.
- Supply and installation of transfer grilles and door louvres, where indicated on Door and Frame Schedule; fire labelled where door rating is indicated.
Door Hardware
- Supply and installation of door hardware for wood and hollow metal doors.
- Supervision and inspection of door hardware installation by hardware supplier.

DIVISION 09
Gypsum Board
- Provide acoustical batt insulation where noted in Drawings.
- After alterations at new Office areas, make good all metal studs and drywall to restore finished appearance.
Acoustic Work
- In new Offices supply and install new ceiling grid and tiles.
- In areas adjacent to new Offices, modify existing tile and grid area affected by new partition and new acoustical upgrade work.
- Provide and install additional acoustic barriers above acoustic ceilings in new Offices.
Resilient Flooring
- Removal of existing linoleum sheet flooring at Open Office Area.
- Substrate preparation for new flooring (including skim coat location of concrete exposed at new door.
- Removal of existing rubber base.
- Installation of new linoleum sheet flooring.
Carpet Tile
- Remove existing carpet and accessories in Offices, Testing Rooms and Storage Room.
- Supply and install new carpet tile in Offices, Testing Room, Storage Room and Open Area.
- Supply and install vinyl transitions at all carpet to resilient flooring junctions in Forum.
Painting
- With exceptions specified above or specifically called for in other Sections of the Specification, all paintwork is included in the scope of this Section of the Specification. Colours will be confirmed at a later date by the Consultant. Allow for 1 colour per room.
- In locations where Drawings do not call for paint or similar finish on walls and/or ceilings, the intent of this Specification is that all wood and metal surfaces normally painted or similarly finished shall be so treated.
- Paint all walls, drywall ceilings and bulkheads of renovated areas and affected walls in adjacent Corridor.
- All heating units, recessed convectors, grilles, pipes, access panels, hangers and miscellaneous exposed metal work (other than stainless steel, anodized aluminum and baked enamel) to be painted to match the surfaces on which they occur, unless otherwise directed by Consultant.
- In all renovated areas, paint all walls as specified for new construction. All other walls in the room are to be cleaned and painted with one coat.
- Paint exposed drywall and the like in locations where finish is not otherwise specified or noted.
- Do not paint such surfaces in mechanical shafts, unless specifically noted.
