The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is seeking proposals for the provision of a particle tracking instrument, including four years of post-warranty service.
In support of the development, testing and validation of novel therapeutics being researched at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, we wish to create a dedicated core for large- scale preparation and purification of exosomes.
The particle tracking instrument will enable size and population characterization of exosomes and viruses which is critical to developing new modified bio-delivery vehicles, purification methods for them, and routinely characterizing the quality of exosomes and viruses used in experiments.
This instrument will have a critical impact on the quality and impact of Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research, as well as other neuro-muscular diseases, performed by the network of basic, translational and clinical researchers at TOH.
The source of funding for this instrument is the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).
The CFI is an independent corporation created in 1997 by the Government of Canada to fund research infrastructure. The CFI's mandate is to strengthen the capacity of Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals, and non-profit research institutions to carry out world- class research and technology development projects that benefit Canadians.
The CFI funds up to 40% of a project's infrastructure costs which are invested in partnership with eligible institutions and their funding partners from the public sectors. In Ontario, the Ministry of Research and generally matches the 40% of the CFI funding. The remaining 20% or more is provided by the institution and/or the private sectors on a voluntary basis.
