Description

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development is releasing a Request for Information (RFI) to test the level of interest from industry in the creation of a training academy to support the training needs of pre-apprentices, apprentices and journeypersons that are hired to work on public-private-partnership (P3) infrastructure projects over $100M, starting with major transit initiatives. Responses to the RFI would inform the final design and budget for the proposed academy. Any questions should be directed by email to Barbara.Cavarzan@ontatrio.ca

On June 25, 2021, from 10:00 to 12:00 the ministry will host a virtual open forum, during which the ministry will provide a brief presentation on the proposed academy, answer any questions submitted in response to this RFI, and address any further questions. Following the event, an addendum to the RFI will be posted to the Ontario Tenders Portal on July 7, 2021. Vendors must register by June 18, 2021.

Scope of Work
The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development is looking for feedback from vendors interested in potentially running a training academy to support the skilled trades training needs of major transit projects in the Greater Toronto Area, such as the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and Scarborough Subway Extension projects. The proposed design of the training academy includes training for individuals who are interested in a career in the skilled trades (pre-apprentices), in-class training for apprentices already working in the trades, and training for tradespeople who have completed their apprenticeship program and are looking to upgrade their skills.

As Ontario moves forward with an over $140 billion multi-year infrastructure plan, it is crucial that the province supports the development of a skilled workforce that can meet the labour market needs required by these projects.

The RFI will test the depth of interest and viability in establishing an academy and provide information that can be used to finalize a design and budget.
