The City of Castlegar is seeking proposals from professional, qualified consultants to provide airport electrical engineering services for an Airfield Edge Lighting Upgrade Project for the West Kootenay Regional Airport
Invitation
The City owns and operates the West Kootenay Regional Airport (WKRA), a certified aerodrome located at 132 Hall Road, Castlegar, BC. The City is seeking a Qualified Airport Electrical Engineering Consultant to provide Detailed Design, Tender Support, and Construction Support for the replacement of the airfield edge markers to wireless LED solar lighting and associated backlit signage.
Background and Purpose
The WKRA is currently a daytime only Transport Canada certified airport and is equipped with navigational aids such as Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), Omni Directional Approach Lighting System (ODALS) and Runway End Identification Lights (REILS). These systems assist the pilot in visually identifying the ends of each runway and provide visual approach slope guidance for landing on the runway surface. The WKRA completed an airfield lighting and electrical system rehabilitation in 2020 and the above lighting was replaced with new equipment at that time. The REILS were replaced with Threshold Runway Indicator Lights (TRILS).
The current runway edges and thresholds / runway ends are identified with retro-reflective markers (nonilluminated). Taxiway A and Apron I edges are also identified with the same retro-reflective edge markers.
