Prior to 2020, virtual technology was being used in the Courts to connect with correctional institutions or remand centres, vulnerable victims, and witnesses, and those unable to travel to the court locations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for virtual court proceedings has increased immensely resulting in the Province to establish new Alberta Queen’s Bench Jury Court operations throughout Alberta. This involved renting new facilities, securing and furnishing them, and establishing the information technology and audio-visual services using a standard form of Webex, Microsoft M365 Teams, and other software applications to enable Alberta Queen’s Bench jury trials to safely resume during the pandemic. The Province requires a qualified Contractor to provide network support services in nine (9) Alberta locations.
