The WCB is seeking a Contractor to complete a Residential Home Modification Project in Medicine Hat, Alberta as per the specifications and drawings contained in this IFB. The project will consist of:
1. Garage Modifications – A new porch lift will be added into the garage to provide wheelchair access up to the main floor level. A new set of stairs will also need to be constructed in the garage.
2. Main Floor Modifications – Modifications will be made to the mudroom/laundry area, powder room, kitchen area and sunken family room area. The sunken family room area should be raised to be level with the main floor and a new French Style patio door should be installed to provide access out to the back exterior deck from the family room area. New flooring should also be provided for the entire main floor. All doors will be made to provide wheelchair access as required.
3. Kitchen Modifications – The existing kitchen will be removed to make room for a new wheelchair accessible kitchen. The new kitchen area will be designed to have open space under the new cooktop and sink, wall oven, pull-out drawers, and hardware that provides shelves in the upper cabinets that can be reached by those who use wheelchairs.
4. Main Floor Powder Room Modifications – The existing powder room should be expanded to make it wheelchair accessible complete with new plumbing fixtures and grab bars.
5. New Residential Elevator – A new 3-stop elevator will be supplied and installed into the home. The location of the elevator will be in the existing front entrance foyer, and it will provide access from the main floor to the second floor and to the basement. The elevator should also be supplied with a full battery back-up package.
6. Second Floor Modifications – Modifications should be made to the master bathroom ensuite to include a new curbless shower area. A wheelchair accessible sink should be provided, and a new higher toilet should also be supplied and installed. Finally, grab bars should be strategically located. Modifications will also be made to the existing walk-in-closet. New flooring should also be provided for the entire second floor. All doors will be made to provide wheelchair access as required.
7. Basement Modifications – Modifications will be made to the basement bathroom with a wheelchair accessible sink area. New flooring should also be provided for the entire basement. All doors will be made to provide wheelchair access as required.
8. Back Deck Modifications – The existing exterior back deck will need to be provided with a porch lift to provide wheelchair access from the ground to the deck and main floor level. The deck will also be modified to be level with the main floor.
9. Other Modifications – All other modifications will include new flooring and painting throughout the entire home, doors and windows and light and plumbing fixtures, plus all required structural, mechanical and electrical alterations.
