The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (Regional District) is committed to reducing its carbon footprint across the regional district. The intention of this project is to lower the environmental footprint of the Grand Forks Aquatic Centre. This renovation project at the aquatic centre follows energy conservation measures approved by FortisBC, stemming from a custom energy audit completed in March of 2021 through the Fortis BC Custom Energy Study Program.

The Grand Forks Aquatic Centre is a year-round, indoor aquatic centre, directly serving 8,611 residents of Grand Forks, and Electoral Districts ‘C’ and ‘D’ of the Regional District. The Aquatic Centre is also the biggest consumer of utilities of any facility owned by the Regional District. With expected emissions reduction of 203 tonnes CO2, or 60%, the project meets the Regional District’s Board of Directors strategic priority of fostering Environmental Stewardship and Climate Preparedness.

The Regional District is seeking proposals from qualified Proponents with demonstrated ability to complete services associated with the preparation of plans, design documents, specifications, permit applications (federal, provincial, and/or local), cost estimates, and any other required tasks. The successful Proponent will provide engineering, and inspection services for completion of upgrades to HVAC and solar infrastructure at the Grand Forks Aquatic Centre.
