City of Prince George (City) invites consultants interested in an opportunity to provide a business case for the land use vision for an area referred to in downtown Prince George as the Civic Core District.
On March 28, 2022, Council supported City Administration to proceed with steps outlined in a staff report to Council to develop a land use plan for the city-owned parcels in the area of downtown Prince George that encompasses the existing City Hall, Prince George Conference and Civic Centre, Prince George Public Library, Two Rivers Gallery, Canfor Leisure Pool, Kopar Memorial Arena, Knights Inn Prince George, and the previous sites of Four Seasons Liesure Pool, and Fire Hall #1.
On December 18, 2023, Administration presented the results of the community consultation that occurred for the Civic Core District Plan. Through various forms of engagement, three (3) significant items/facilities were identified for inclusion in the Civic Core District Plan (in addition to the uses already occurring) which include:
- Mixed-use housing (commercial on the first storey with residential housing units above)
- Performing Arts Centre
- Ice Arena
These three (3) uses are to be integrated into the Civic Core District Plan area with consideration of the facilities and uses already occurring in the area. The Civic Core District land area and may also encompass mixed-use commercial with hotel, a performance facility capable of hosting a variety of performances, and flex space that connects new buildings with existing and can offer space to extend certain uses or events when needed.
On December 16, 2024 Administration presented two (2) land use options that included the significant items/facilities identified through the public engagement process. Council has provided direction on one (1) of the two (2) options presented, which has prompted further consideration in consultation with key user groups.
Consultants are encouraged to review the staff reports to Council, the meeting minutes, and video recording of the Council meetings to inform their submissions and understand the Council direction given thus far.
