TOT25-031 - Ladder Inspections

The Town invites tenders for the annual inspections of approximately 73 Ladders at several Town owned facilities. Inspections are mandated by the NS Occupational Safety Regulations. A list of known ladders and their location is provided, and though we believe we have captured all the most up to date information, proponents should be aware that there may be a few missing and we would need those inspected too. Inspections of the Ladders are essential to ensure they operate correctly and are safe to use. Inspections would include checking for loose, worn or damaged rails, corrosion and defects in climbing devices. For fixed ladders, inspections will include inspection of vertical climbing fall arrest cables where appropriate. The fixed ladders must comply with ANSI A14.3 For Portable ladders, visual inspections are required. Each ladder must be documented and included in the final inspection report. All portable ladders must be labelled appropriately after inspection. The final inspection report will list all findings including deficiencies if applicable for each ladder and will be signed, sealed by a professional engineer of NS and made available to our Safety Officer by email.
