Project Description and Scope of Work
The project consists of the complete modernization of the arena's ice production system, including the following major interventions:
- New Refrigeration System: Design and installation of a modern refrigeration unit to replace existing equipment (compressors, heat exchangers, etc.), in accordance with current standards, including the use of a low environmental impact refrigerant and the implementation of regulatory safety devices.
- Replacement of the Ice Slab: The consultant will evaluate whether the existing rink slab and refrigeration piping should be demolished or if a new reinforced concrete slab can be constructed over the existing slab. The assessment will consider energy performance, durability, technical risks, accessibility considerations, and potential cost savings in order to identify the most appropriate solution. The existing dasherboards are intended to be reused, as they were replaced only a few years ago.
- Ventilation and Dehumidification: Replacement of the ventilation and dehumidification system to ensure adequate air quality, reduce condensation risks, and guarantee compatibility with the new refrigeration system.
- Electrical Upgrades: Modernization of the electrical entrance and other components necessary to support the new mechanical installations.
- Mechanical and Electrical Rooms: The scope of work includes an evaluation of the existing mechanical and electrical rooms to determine the most suitable approach for accommodating new equipment. This evaluation will address compliance with applicable codes and best practices, including ventilation requirements, refrigerant detection, equipment clearances, and safe access. Two potential solutions will need to be evaluated: relocation of the mechanical and electrical rooms to the rear of the
arena, or renovation of the current spaces. The municipality wishes to evaluate and compare both option
