The purpose of this project is to replace aged software and hardware thus providing a sustainable barcode scanning infrastructure for PHSA going forward.
As part of the 2004 implementation of PeopleSoft FSCM at PHSA, VCH and PHC, third-party software was purchased and implemented to enable the use of hand-held barcode scanners for in-hospital supplies replenishment. The current software, HighJump, interfaces with PeopleSoft and integrates approximately 35 Intermec barcode scanners, which are used to create orders and upload to PeopleSoft as a supply requisition to be filled from inventory, or by Purchase Order.
HighJump and these particular scanners are used exclusively by PHSA Supply Chain (SC), In-Hospital Replenishment department (IHR). As both the HighJump software and the Intermec 700 scanners (hardware) are no longer supported, business continuity risk is high. System security and reliability are a major risk without vendor support in the form of upgrades, updates and security patches.
