This Request for Proposals is an invitation by SaskPower to Proponents to submit Proposals concerning the provision of professional services to support SaskPower’s development of nuclear power from small modular reactors as a potential zero emissions power source after 2030 as further described in the RFP.

SaskPower is a Saskatchewan Crown Corporation continued under The Power Corporation Act (Saskatchewan) and the primary supplier of electricity for Saskatchewan. SaskPower is on track to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) by over 50% from 2005 levels by 2030. We are now assessing the full range of power supply options that will enable much deeper cuts to GHG emissions in the longer term. This includes planning and development work related to the potential for nuclear power from SMRs; adding more wind and solar and exploring storage technologies; determining the potential for future carbon capture and storage projects; continuing to support the development of biomass, geothermal and hydrogen as clean power sources; and, expanding our regional interconnections to bring in more clean hydro power from outside of Saskatchewan. It is anticipated that the Preferred Proponent (if any) will enter into a formal contract with SaskPower in the form of the Engineering Services Agreement. The Engineering Services Agreement will require, amongst other things, the Successful Proponent to provide professional services to SaskPower for and in respect of SaskPower’s project to advance the development of a utility scale small modular reactor facility in Saskatchewan.
