This Request for Proposals (the “RFP”) is an invitation by the Saskatchewan Power Corporation (“SaskPower”) to prospective proponents to submit proposals for the provision of P10220 - QE2 Static Excitation System Install, as further described in the RFP Particulars (Appendix A) (the “ Work”).
SaskPower is a Saskatchewan Crown Corporation continued under The Power Corporation Act (Saskatchewan). It is principally responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity for most of Saskatchewan.
The QE2 steam turbine-generator unit is equipped with a rotating excitation system consisting of a DC rotating main exciter (original) and an ABB Unitrol F automatic voltage regulator (AVR). The excitation system excites the armature by creating a magnetic field on the rotor. The output voltage of the generator is controlled by adjusting the DC current to the generator field winding. This unit was commissioned in 1959.
Due to recent excessive wear and tear of that rotary exciter system and some parts being obsolete, SaskPower has decided to change the current system to a Static excitation system.
The Queen Elizabeth Power Station is located on the west side of the South Saskatchewan River at 2211 Spadina Crescent, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The QE2 planned outage is from September 20, 2025, to December 05, 2025.
